This was a job involving renewing and replacing parts of the roof and window supports where the original wood had rotted.
The roof hip was scarf jointing to renew the area of roof valley and window lintels replaced with steel (treble skin). Suitable apex supports were put into place whilst work was ongoing and cross beams also fitted for extra support of the roof, as per the structural engineering specifications.
The work shown here was to remove and refit kitchen units and appliances on the other side of the room. A central pillar support to the ceiling joists and beam between the kitchen and dining room was to be removed and replaced with steel beams. The chimney breast was dismantled and corner steels inserted to provide support to the existing chimney.
Once all suitable supports had been fitted, the kitchen units were refitted in what was the dining room area and the full space was transformed into an open kitchen diner
These pictures show knocking through between the living room and the kitchen in a home in Manchester.
The wall removed was a main supporting wall and so required large steels and cross beams to be fitted to in its place. Underpinning was also required and the existing extension double steels needed to be renewed, as the existing steels were not giving adequate support. Upon completion of all work, the end result is a new 6.4 x 6.4 m² open plan kitchen diner.
